  • Let the side of the square be a units

According to Question ,

It's side is increasing at the rate of 4cm/s

° ds/dt = 4 cm/s_____________(1)

Now we know that

  • Area of a square = [ side × side ]

° Rate in change of area is given by

dA/dt = 2s.ds/dt

:- Now plug side = 7 cm as given in question and put value of ds/dt from [1]

=> Rate of change of area = 2 × 7 × 4

= 56 cm²/s
