make all the denominators equal

5x-2/10 = 4x +3/12

5x-2/ 4x+3 = 10/12=5/6

cross multiplying

6(5x-2)=5(4x+3)

30x-12 = 20x + 15

30x-20x=15+12

10x=27

x= 27/10 or 2.7
