Hi ,

It is given that,

x + 2y = -1

x = -1 - 2y ---( 1 )

2x - 3y = 12 ----( 2 )

substituting ( 1 ) in equation in ( 2 ),

we get

2( -1 - 2y ) - 3y = 12

-2 - 4y - 3y = 12

-7y = 12 + 2

-7y = 14

y = 14/( -7 )

y = -2

put y = -2 in equation ( 1 ), we get

x = -1 - 2( -2 )

x = -1 + 4

x = 3

Therefore b,

x = 3 , y = -2

I hope this helps you.
