Answer :

x = 2 , y = -3

Solution :

Here ,

The given equations are ;

x/2 + 2y/3 = -1 -------(1)

x - y/3 = 3 ----------(2)

Eq-(1) can be rewritten as ;

=> x/2 + 2y/3 = -1

=> (3x + 4y)/6 = -1

=> 3x + 4y = -1×6

=> 3x + 4y = -6 --------(3)

Eq-(2) can be rewritten as ;

=> x - y/3 = 3

=> (3x - y)/3 = 3

=> 3x - y = 3×3

=> 3x - y = 9 --------(4)

Now ,

Subtracting eq-(4) from (3) , we get ;

=> (3x + 4y) - (3x - y) = -6 - 9

=> 3x + 4y - 3x + y = -15

=> 5y = -15

=> y = -15/5

=> y = -3

Now ,

Putting y = -3 in eq-(4) , we get ;

=> 3x - y = 9

=> 3x - (-3) = 9

=> 3x + 3 = 9

=> 3x = 9 - 3

=> 3x = 6

=> x = 6/3

=> x = 2

Hence ,

x = 2 , y = -3
