2x+3y=12..........2nd

multiply by 3 in equation no.1st,

multiply by 2 in equation no.2nd,

and then added

your ans is

4x+6y=24............3rd

8x+12y=48

8x+y=48/12

X+y=4/8

X+y=1/2
