Given equations:-

  • x - y = 2 ----->1
  • x + y = 8 ---->2

Add equation 1 to equation 2

x - y = 2

+ x + y = 8

------------------

2x = 10

x = \bf\frac{\cancel{10}}{\cancel{2}}

\bf{\large{\boxed{\red{x = 5}}}}

Substitute x = 5 in equation 2

x + y = 8

5 + y = 8

y = 8 - 5

\bf{\large{\boxed{\red{y = 3}}}}

Verification:-

For equation 2:

x + y = 8

5 + 3 = 8

8 = 8

For equation 1:

x -y = 2

5 - 3 = 2

2 = 2

Hence verified!
