solve the passage
An earthquake is the noticeable shaking of the carth's surface, which can be
violent enough to destroy major buildings and kill thousands of people.
Earth quakes have destroyed many cities. They result from the sudden
release of energy in the earth's crust that creates seismic waves. An earth
quake's point of origin is called its focus or hypocenter. Often the main
earth quake is preceded by number of foreshocks and followed by
aftershocks.
Earthquakes are measured using observations from seismometers. They can
also be measured on the local magnitude scale, referred to as Richter scale.
Magnitude 3 or lower earth quakes are almost imperceptible or weak and
magnitude 7 or over cause serious damages. The earth quake of 9.0
magnitude hit Japan in 2011 and was the largest intensity earthquake since
records began. Earthquakes can also trigger landslides and volcanic activity.
