Given

  • Side of square ⇒ 4 ²/₃ m
  • Length of Rectangle ⇒ 5 ¹/₅ m
  • Breadth of Rectangle ⇒ 3 ²/₅ m

To Find

  • The longer perimeter

Solution

Firstly we need to find the perimeter of the square and rectangle separately and then compare them.

Perimeter of Square ⇒ 4 × Side

Side ⇒ 4\frac{2}{3} m

Perimeter of Square ⇒ 4 \times 4\dfrac{2}{3}

Perimeter of Square ⇒ 4 \times \dfrac{14}{3}

Perimeter of Square ⇒ \dfrac{56}{3}\ m

Perimeter of Rectangle ⇒ 2 (Length + Breadth)

Length ⇒ 5\frac{1}{5} m

Breadth ⇒ 3\frac{2}{5} m

Perimeter of Rectangle ⇒ 2 (5\dfrac{1}{5} +3\dfrac{2}{5})

Perimeter of Rectangle ⇒ 2 (\dfrac{26}{5} +\dfrac{17}{5})

Perimeter of Rectangle ⇒ 2 (\dfrac{43}{5})

Perimeter of Rectangle ⇒ \dfrac{86}{5} \ m

Now we will compare the perimeter of square and rectangle. For that we will find the LCM of the denominators first.

LCM of 5 and 3 is 15.

Perimeter of Square ⇒ \dfrac{56\times 5}{3\times 5} = \dfrac{280}{15}

Perimeter of Rectangle ⇒ \dfrac{86\times 3 }{5\times 3 } = \dfrac{258}{15}

\dfrac{280}{15} > \dfrac{258}{15}

∴ The perimeter of the square is greater than the perimeter of rectangle.
