Now multiply eqeq ( 1 ) by 3 we, get
3 × [ 2x - y = 5 ] ⇒ 6x - 3y = 15--------eq ( 3 ) ( say).
Now adding eq ( 2 ) + eq ( 3 ) , we get
x + 3y + 6x - 3y = 6 + 15
⇒7x = 21
⇒ x = 21/7
⇒ x = 3.
Now substituting " x = 3 " in eq ( 1 ) , we get
2 ( 3 ) - y = 5
⇒ 6 - y = 5
⇒ y = 6 - 5
⇒ y = 1.
∴ The values of x and y are 3 and 1.
