2 \binom{1 \: \: \: \: \: \: 4}{0 \: \: \: \: \: \: \: x} + \binom{y \: \: \: \: \: \:2}{ - 1\: \: \: \: \:6} = \binom{5\: \: \: \: \: \:10}{ - 1\: \: \: \: \: \:6}

Taking L.H.S

First Multiply the matrix with (2)

 = \binom{2\: \: \: \: \: \:8}{0\: \: \: \: \: \:2x} + \binom{y\: \: \: \: \: \:2}{ - 1\: \: \: \: \: \:6}

Now Add Both matrices

 = \binom{(2 + y)\: \: \: \: \: \:10}{ - 1\: \: \: \: \: \:(2x + 6)}
Comparing each element with matrix of R.H.S we get :-
•2+y = 5
•2x+6 = 6

solving these two linear equations ...
we get x = 0, y = 3
Now x-y = -3
