In right triangle ∆ABD by Pythagoras theorem,

(AB)² + (BD)² = (AD)²

= 5² + (BD)² = 9²

= (BD)² = = 81 45

= (BD)² = = 56

= BD = √56

= BD = 2√14

In right triangle ∆ABC by Pythagoras theorem,

(AB)² + (BC)² = (AC)²

= 5² + (BD - CD)² = (AC)²

= 25 + (BD /2 )= (AC)²

= 25 + (2√4/2) ² = (AC)²

= 25 + 14 = (AC)²

= 39= (AC)²
