now, distance of the point (4, -3) from y-axis, using distance formula is–

 =  \sqrt{ {( x_{2}  -  x_{1} )}^{2}  +  {( y_{2} -  y_{1} )}^{2} }   \\  =  \sqrt{ {(4 - 0)}^{2}  + {( - 3 - ( - 3))}^{2}  }  \\  =  \sqrt{ {4}^{2}  +  { (- 3 + 3)}^{2} }  =  \sqrt{ {4}^{2} +  {0}^{2}  }   =  \sqrt{ {4}^{2} }  \\  = 4 \: units
