Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Thank you for asking this question. We know that

AP=3 cm

PC=8 cm

AP = BP

BP = 3 cm

PC = BP + BC

8 = 3 + BC

BC = 5 cm

BC = CD

CD = 5 cm.

 \boxed{question}

To find the length of tangent CD , where

AP = 3cm and PC = 8cm.

 \boxed{answer}

If AP and PC are tangents, then

PA = PB and CP = CB

[ tangents drawn from external point to the circle are equal]

Now,

PA = PB

PB = 3 cm [PA = 3 cm]

PC = 8cm

PB + BC = 8

3 + BC = 8 [Putting the value of PB]

BC = 5 cm. –––> [I]

So, we get BC as 5 cm.

Now, we know CD = CB. –––>[II]

Therefore, from (I) and (II) we get,

CD = 5cm
