By pythagoras theorem
hyp^2=b^2+h^2
15^2 (length of ladder )=x^2+12^2
x^2=15^2-12^2
x^2=225-144
x^2=91
x=9m (ans)
when the ladder is leant on the wall a triangle forms of which the ladder is hyp wall is height (till window)and distance between ladder and wall at the foot is base.
Hope it helps:)
