Here , CD = 3.9 Cm

Step-by-step explanation:

AB and CD are two chords of a circle which intersect each other at P outside the circle.

AB = 6 cm, BP = 2 cm and PD = 2.5 cm

We have a formula if two chord intersect each other /-

∴ AP × BP = CP × DP

Here , CP = CD + DP

Hence , 8 × 2 = ( CD + 2.5 ) × 2.5

Here , Let CD = X Cm

Thus, 8 × 2 = ( CD + 2.5 ) × 2.5

⇒ 16 = 2.5 X + 6.25

⇒ 2.5 X = ( 16 - 6.25 ) = 9.75

⇒ X = 9.75/2.5

⇒ X = 3.9 Cm

Hence, CD = 3.9 Cm

--/ I think this in this way you can understand it much more easily...........

We are given two chords AB and CD of a circle intersect each other at P outside the circle.

We have a formula if two chord intersect each other -/

AP × BP = CP × DP

Where, AB = 6 cm, BP = 2 cm and PD = 2.5 CM

Or , AP = AB + BP

Or , AP = 6 + 2 = 8 cm

Substituteing into formula we will get /-

⇒AP × BP = CP × DP

⇒ 8 × 2 = CP × 2.5

⇒ 16= 2.5 CP

⇒ CP= 6.4 CM

⇒ CP = CD + DP

Or , we can say that -/

6.4 = CD + 2.5

Hence , CD=3.9 CM
