Answer :
y = ±6
y² - 36 = 0
This equation can be written in the form :
y² - 6² = 0
Using the identity :
a² - b² = (a + b)(a - b)
y² - 6² = 0
(y + 6)(y-6) = 0
Hence ,
y + 6 = 0
y = -6
and y -6 = 0
y = 6
Verification :
1) Using y = -6
(-6)² -36
= 36 -36
= 0
2) Using y = 6
(6)² - 36
= 36 - 36
= 0
