Answer :

y = ±6

y² - 36 = 0

This equation can be written in the form :

y² - 6² = 0

Using the identity :

a² - b² = (a + b)(a - b)

y² - 6² = 0

(y + 6)(y-6) = 0

Hence ,

y + 6 = 0

y = -6

and y -6 = 0

y = 6

\underline{\therefore \sf Roots\ of\ the\ quadratic\ equation\ are\ 6\ and\ -6}

Verification :

1) Using y = -6

(-6)² -36

= 36 -36

= 0

2) Using y = 6

(6)² - 36

= 36 - 36

= 0

Some other identities :

(a+b)² = a² + b² + 2ab

(a-b)² = a² + b² -2ab

(a+b+c)² = a² + b² + c² + 2ab + 2bc + 2ca
