solve the quadratic equation X square minus 6x + 5 is equal to zero using formula

Solution :

Compare x²-6x+5=0 with ax²+bx+c=0

we get ,

a = 1 , b = -6 , c = 5

Discreminant ( D ) = b² - 4ac

= ( -6 )² - 4×1×5

= 36 - 20

= 16

By quadratic formula:

x = [ (-b) ± √D ]/2a

= [ -(-6)±√16 ]/(2×1)

= ( 6 ± 4 )/2

Therefore ,

x = (6+4)/2 or x = ( 6-4 )/2

x = 5 or x = 1
