50 - 2 x


This is two more than twice number subtracted from 40 :

40 - x + 2


50 - 2 x = 40 - x + 2


= > - 2 x + x = 42 - 50

= > - x = - 8

= > x = 8


Hence the smaller number is 8.

The bigger number is twice .


Hence it is 8 × 2 = 16 .
