We know, a^2 - b^2 = (a - b)(a + b)

So,

(4):

 \frac{ {(4.23)}^{2}  -  {(2.71)}^{2} }{4.23 - 2.71}

Applying formula :

 \frac{(4.23 + 2.71)(4.23 - 2.71)}{4.23 - 2.71}  \\  \\  \\  \frac{(4.23 + 2.71)}{1}  \\  \\  \\  \\ 6.94
