Adding equations (1) and (2), we get;

x + y + x - y = 12 + 2

x + x + y - y = 14

2x = 14

x = 14/2

Putting the value of x = 7 in equation (2), we get

x - y = 2

➞ (7) - y = 2

➞ 7 - y = 2

➞ - y = 2 - 7

➞ - y = - 5

➞ y = 5

∴ The value of x = 7, y = 5 is the solution of the system of the given equations.
