x + y = 4 . . . . . (1)
x - y = 2 . . . . . (2)
Now,
Adding equations (1) and (2), we get
x + y + x - y = 4 + 2
x + x + y - y = 6
2x = 6
x = 6/2
x = 3
Now,
Putting the value of x = 3 in equation (2) we get,
x - y = 2
➞ (3) - y = 2
➞ 3 - y = 2
➞ - y = 2 - 3
➞ - y = - 1
➞ y = 1
∴ The value of x = 3, y = 1 is the solution of the system of the given equations.
