Answér :

x = 1 , y = 6

Solution :

Here ,

The given equations are ;

2x + 3y = 20 --------(1)

x + 5y = 31 --------(2)

Now ,

Using eq-(2) , we have ;

=> x + 5y = 31

=> x = 31 - 5y ---------(3)

Now ,

Putting x = 31 - 5y in eq-(1) , we get ;

=> 2x + 3y = 20

=> 2(31 - 5y) + 3y = 20

=> 62 - 10y + 3y = 20

=> -10y + 3y = 20 - 62

=> -7y = -42

=> y = -42/-7

=> y = 6

Now ,

Putting y = 6 in the eq-(3) , we get ;

=> x = 31 - 5y

=> x = 31 - 5•6

=> x = 31 - 30

=> x = 1

Hence ,

x = 1 , y = 6
