Answer:

x = 10 , y = 13

Solution:

Here ,

The given equations are :

x + y = 3 --------(1)

y = 3x - 17 ---------(2)

Now,

Substituting y = 3x - 17 in eq-(1) , we get ;

=> x + y = 3

=> x + 3x - 17 = 3

=> x + 3x = 3 + 17

=> 4x = 40

=> x = 40/4

=> x = 10

Now,

Putting x = 10 in eq-(2) , we get ;

=> y = 3x - 17

=> y = 3•10 - 17

=> y = 30 - 17

=> y = 13

Hence,

x = 10

y = 13
