x + y = 8

x = 8 - y

3x - 2y = 9

3*(8 - y) - 2y = 9

24 - 3y - 2y = 9

24 - 5y = 9

24 - 9 = 5y

15 = 5y

15/5 = y

5 = y

x = 8 - y

= 8 - 5

= 3

Hope it will help you

Answer:

x + y = 8

y = 8 - x

3x - 2y = 9

3x - 2(8 - x) = 9

3x - 16 + 2x = 9

5x - 16 = 9

5x = 9 + 16

5x = 25

x = 25/5

x = 5

y = 8 - x

= 8 - 5

= 3
