Answer:

x+y=6

y=6-x

we also have x-y=2

put value of y in above equation

x-(6-x)=2

x-6+x=2

2x-6=2

2x=8

x=4

put in any above equation

we get y=6-4=2

Step-by-step explanation:

x + y = 6 \:  \:  \:  \:  \: (1) \\  \\ x - y = 2 \:  \:  \:  \:  \: (2) \\  \\  take   \: equation \: (1) \\  \\ x + y = 6 \\  \\ x = 6 - y  \:  \:  \:  \:  \: (3)\\  \\ now \: put \: value \: of \: x \: in \: equation \: (2) \\  \\ 6 - y - y = 2 \\  \\ 6 - 2y = 2 \\  \\  - 2y = 2 - 6 \\  \\  - 2y =  - 4 \\  \\ y = 2 \\  \\ therefore \: put \: the \: value \: of \: y \: in \: equation \: (3) \\  \\ x = 6 - y \\  \\ x = 6 - 2 \\  \\ x = 4 \\  \\ hence \: the \: value \: of \:  \:  \\ x = 4 \: and \:  \: y = 2
