Answer:

x + 2y = 5 \\ 2y = 5 - x \\ y =  ( \frac{5 - x}{2} )

from example 2

2x + 3( \frac{5 - x}{2} ) = 6 \\  \frac{4x + 3(5 - x)}{2}  = 6 \\ 4x + 15 - 3x = 6 \times 2 \\ 4x - 3x + 15 = 12 \\ x = 12 - 15 \\ x =  - 3

so

y = ( \frac{5 - x}{2} ) \\ y = ( \frac{5 - ( - 3)}{2} ) \\ y = ( \frac{5 + 3}{2})  \\ y =  \frac{8}{2}  \\ y = 4 \: answer
