Answer:let the age of the uncle be x yrs

and the nephew be y yrs

then,

x+y=46....eqn(i)

now,

after 3yrs nephews' age=y+3

and

uncle = x+3

so,

3(y+3)= (3+x)

or,

x+3= 9+3y

or,

x-3y=9-3

or,

x-3y= 6.....eqn(ii)

so,

substracting eqn (ii) from (i),we get,

4y= 40

or,

y=10

thus,

putting the value of x in eqn (i), we get,

x+10=46

or,

x=36

therefore,

the present age of the uncle is 36yrs

and the nephew is 10yrs

Step-by-step explanation:

  1. let uncle's age is X and nephew's age isY.
  2. sum of their ages is 46
  3. X+Y=46
  4. after 3 years.
  5. uncle's age will became X+3.
  6. and nephew's age became Y+3.
  7. acc. to question X+3=3(Y+3)
  8. now solve it.
  9. it is easy now.
