here, En = -13.6 /n^2 eV

when n= 1 ,

E1 = -13.6 eV

when n= 2 ,

E2 = -13.6 / 4

= -3.4 eV

energy required to take an electron from the ground state the first excited state :-

E2-E1

=- 3.4 -(-13.6)

= 10.2eV
