Step-by-step explanation:

Let the length of the bamboo be x metres

length of bamboo in mud= (1/5 × x) m

=x/5 m

Length of bamboo in water=(1/4 × x)m

=x/4 m

Length of bamboo above water= 11 m

By condition,

x/5+ x/4 +11 = x

x/5+ x/4 -x = -11

4x+5x/20 -x= -11

9x/20-x= -11

9x-20x/20 = -11

-11x/20= -11

11x/20=11

x=11×20/11

x=20

The length of the bamboo is 20 metres
