ax + by = 5...(i)

bx + ay = 3...(ii)

Multiply (i) by a and (ii) by b and subtract

a 2 x+aby−b 2 x−aby=5a−3b

(a 2−b 2 )x=5a−3b

x= a 2 −b25a−3b

Similarly,

Multiply (i) by b and (ii) by a and subtract

abx+b

2 y−abx−a 2 y=5b−3a

(b 2 −a2)y=5b−3a

y= b 2−a 25b−3a
