Question -

  • Solve the following pair of equations by substitution method -

 \frac{3x}{2}  -  \frac{5y}{3}  =  - 2

 \frac{x}{3}  +  \frac{y}{2}  =  \frac{13}{6}

Solution -

 \frac{3x}{2}  -  \frac{5y}{3}  =  - 2.........1)

And,

 \frac{x}{3}  +  \frac{y}{2}  =  \frac{13}{6}

 \frac{y}{2}  =  \frac{13}{6}  -  \frac{x}{3}

 \frac{y}{2}  =  \frac{13 - 2x}{6}

y = 2 \times  \frac{13 - 2x}{6}

y =  \frac{13 - 2x}{3} .......2)

By substituting the value of y in equation 1) we will get -

 \frac{ 3x}{2}  -  \frac{5}{3}  \times  \frac{13 - 2x}{3}  =  - 2

 \frac{3x}{2}  -  \frac{5}{9} \times  {13 - 2x}  =  - 2

 \frac{27x - 10}{18   }  \times 13 - 2x =  - 2

27x - 10(13 - 2x) =  - 2 \times 18

27x - 130 + 20x =  - 36

47x = 130 - 36

47x = 94

x =  \frac{94}{47}

x = 2

By substituting the value of x in 2) we will get -

y =  \frac{13 - 2x}{3}

y =  \frac{13 - 2 \times 2}{3}

y =  \frac{13 - 4}{3}

y =  \frac{9}{3}

y = 3

Therefore the value of x is 2 and y is 3
