(b) 34 - 5 (p - 1) = 4

34 - 5p + 5 = 4

-5p + 39 = 4

-5p = 4 - 39

p = 7

Check : When we solve LHS on putting the value of p, if we get RHS i.e., 4 then our answer will be correct.

LHS: 34 - 5 (7 - 1)

= 34 - (5 × 6)

= 34 - 30

= 4
