 \frac{x - 1}{3}  +  \frac{2x + 1}{4}  =  \frac{5x + 4}{12}

 \frac{(4x - 4) + (6x + 3)}{12}  =  \frac{5x + 4}{12}

10x - 1 =  \frac{5x + 4}{12}  \times 12

10x - 1 = 5x + 4

10x - 5x = 4 + 1

5x = 5

x = 1
