8x+5y=9 ....(1)

3x+2y=4 ....(2)

multiplying equation 1 by 2 and 2 by 5

16x+10y=18 ...(3)

15x+10y=20 ...(4)

adding equation 3 and 4

16x+10y=18

15x+10y=20

___________

31x =38

x=38/31

x=1.225

substituting x=1.225 in equal 2

3(1.225) + 2y =4

3.675+2y=4

2y= 4 - 3.675

2y= 0.325

y =0.325/2

y =0.1625

:. the value of x is 1.225 and y is 0.162
