Joules heating is given by,

H = i 2 Rt

H is the heat produced, i is the current through the wire of resistance R for time t.

If i is halved, i.e., i / = i/2, then

H / = (i / ) 2 Rt = (1/4)i 2 Rt = (1/4)H

Heat produced will decrease 4 times.

Good Luck!
