Solution :-
Let all 4 boxes are :- w , x , y and z respectively .
Than , Given :-
→ w + x = 8 ------ Equation (1)
→ y - z = 6 ------- Equation (2)
→ w + y = 13 ----- Equation (3)
→ x + z = 8 ------- Equation (4)
Subtracting (4) from (3) , we get,
→ (w + y) - (x + z) = 13 - 8
→ (w - x) + (y - z) = 5
Putting value of Equation (2) here,
→ (w - x) + 6 = 5
→ (w - x) = 5 - 6
→ (w - x) = (-1) -------- Equation (5)
Now, Adding Equation (1) and (5) we get,
→ (w + x) + (w - x) = 8 + (-1)
→ 2w = 7
→ w = 3.5 (Ans).
Putting This value in Equation (1) now, we get,
→ 3.5 + x = 8
→ x = 8 - 3.5
→ x = 4.5 (Ans).
Putting This value in Equation (4) now, we get,
→ 4.5 + z = 8
→ z = 8 - 4.5
→ z = 3.5 (Ans).
Putting This value in Equation (2) now, we get,
→ y - 3.5 = 6
→ y = 6 + 3.5
→ y = 9.5 (Ans).
Hence, Values of w, x , y & z are 3.5, 4.5, 9.5 and 3.5 Respectively .
3.5 + 4.5 = 8
