Step-by-step explanation:

Given :-

Sum of the numerical values of volume , area and perimeter of a cube is 504.

To find :-

Find the length of the side of a cube ?

Solution :-

Let the length of the side of a cube is a units

Surface area of a cube = 6a² sq.units

Volume of a cube = a³ cubic units

Perimeter of a cube = 12a units

Since the edges in a cube = 12

Given that

Sum of the numerical values of volume , area and perimeter of a cube = 504.

=> a³+6a²+12a = 504

=> a³+6a²+12a-504 = 0

=> a³-6a²+12a²-72a+84a-504 = 0

=> (a³-6a²)+(12a²-72a)+(84a-504 )= 0

=> a²(a-6)+12a(a-6)+84(a-6) = 0

=> (a-6)(a²+12a+84) =0

=> (a-6) = 0 or a²+12a+84 = 0

No real roots for a²+12a+84 = 0

So, a -6 = 0

=> a=6

The edge = 6 units

a²+12a+84 = 0

The value of discriminant = b²-4ac

=> 12²-4(1)(84)

=> 144-336

=>- 192<0

So it has no real roots

So a = 6 units

Answer :-

The length of the edge of the cube is 6 units

Used formulae:-

  • Surface area of a cube = 6a² sq.units
  • Volume of a cube = a³ cubic units
  • Perimeter of a cube = 12a units

  • a = edge of the cube

  • A cube has faces = 6 , edges = 12 , vertices = 8
