Given :

▪ Distance covered by cyclist = 50m

▪ Time taken by cyclist = 10s

To Find :

▪ Speed of the cyclist.

Concept :

→ Speed is defined as the ratio of distance travelled to the time taken.

→ It is a scalar quantity.

→ Mathematically,

\bigstar\:\underline{\boxed{\bf{\red{speed=\dfrac{distance\:travelled}{time\:taken}}}}}

Calculation :

\dashrightarrow\sf\:V=\dfrac{50}{10}\\ \\ \dashrightarrow\underline{\boxed{\bf{\green{V=5mps}}}}\rightarrow\:(1)\\ \\ \star\sf\:1mps=\frac{18}{5}kmph\\ \\ \dashrightarrow\sf\:5mps=5\times \dfrac{18}{5}\\ \\ \dashrightarrow\underline{\boxed{\bf{\orange{V=18kmph}}}}\rightarrow\:(2)

GIVEN:

  • Distance travelled by cyclist = 50m
  • Time taken = 10s

TO FIND:

  • Speed of cyclist in m/s & km/h

SOLUTION:

Using the formula

Speed = Distance/time

Speed = 50/10

Speed = 5 m/s

Converting m/s → km/h

To convert multiply with 3.6

Speed = 5 × 3.6

Speed = 18km/h

Hence, speed = 5m/s 18 km/h
