Given : 3 1/2   3\frac{1}{2}   litre of petrol costs Rs  270 3/ 8    270\frac{3}{8}

To find : Cost of 4 litre of petrol

Solution:

3\frac{1}{2}   litre of petrol   = (3 * 2 + 1) /2  =  7/2  litre of petrol

Rs   270\frac{3}{8}    =  ( 270 * 8  + 3)/8  =  2163/8  Rs

7/2  litre of petrol Costs   2163/8  Rs

=> 7  litre of petrol Costs  = 2 * 2163/8  Rs

=> 7  litre of petrol Costs  =  2163/4  Rs

=> 1 litre of petrol Costs  =  (2163/4 ) /7  Rs

=> 1 litre of petrol Costs  =   309/4  Rs

=> 4  litre of petrol Costs  =   4 * 309/4  Rs

=> 4  litre of petrol Costs  =  Rs 309

4  litre of petrol Costs  =  Rs 309
