Answer

  • Speed of the car = 12m/s.
  • Distance travelled by the car = 720 meters.

Given

  • Acceleration of the car = 0.1 m/s².
  • Time taken = 2 minutes or 120 seconds.
  • Initial velocity = 0 m/s.

To Find

  • The speed acquired by the car.
  • The distance travelled by the car.

Step By Step Explanation

  • By using first equation of motion.
  • v = u + at

By substituting the values :

\longmapsto\tt v = 0 + 0.1 \times 120 \\  \\ \longmapsto\tt v = 0.1 \times 120 \\  \\\longmapsto\bf{\green{ v = 12m/s}}

Therefore, speed of the car = 12 m/s.

  • By using third equation of motion.
  • - = 2as

By substituting the values :

\longmapsto\tt {(12)}^{2}  -  {(0)}^{2}  = 2 \times 0.1 \times s \\  \\\longmapsto\tt 144 = 0.2s \\  \\ \longmapsto\tt \cfrac{\cancel{144}}{\cancel{0.2}}  = s \\  \\\longmapsto\tt{ \pink{ 720 \: meters = s}}

Therefore, distance travelled by the car = 720 meters.

___________

Equation of motion

There are mainly three equations of motion. They are as follows -

  • v = u + at
  • s = ut + ½at²
  • v² - u² = 2as

Where, u = initial velocity , v = final velocity, t = time, a = acceleration, and s = distance travelled.

Given:-

a \: = \: 0.1m/s {}^{2}

t \: = \: 2min \: = \: 120s

(A) For the speed acquired:-

v \: = \: u \: + \: at \: = \: 0 \: + \: 0.1 \: × \: 120

⟹ \: v \: = \: 12m/s

(B) For the distance travelled:-

s \: = \: ut \: + \:  \frac{1}{2} at {}^{2}

⟹ \: s \: = \: 0 \: + \: \frac{1}{2} ×0.1×(120) {}^{2}

⟹ \: s \: = \: 720m
