when the block is released it starts experincing the force of buoyancy due to which its apparent weight will be less than its actual weight.

if the density of the block (ρ) is greater than that of liquid  i.e., ρ > 0.88g/cc then the block sinks in to the liquid .

and if the the density of the block is less than that of liquid i.e., ρ < 0.88g/cc then the block floats on the liquid surface.
