let the length of one plank = x

According to the question ,

length of second plank = 4x - 26

sum of both plank = 24m                                         { ∴ Given }

$(x)+(4x-26)=24$

$5x - 26=24$

$5x=50$

$x=10$

length of one plank = 10m

Now,

length of longer plank = 4x - 26

                                    =  $4(10)-26$

                                    = $40-26$
