area of semicircle = pie r^2 / 2
(22/7 x 3 x 3)/2 = 11/7 x 9

AB = BC = CD = 6/3 = 2
area of semicircle BD = (22/7 x 2 x 2)/2 = 44/7
area of semicircle AB = (22/7 x 1 x 1)/2 = 11/7
Area of shaded region = (99/7 + 11/7) - 44/7
                                     = 110/7 - 44/7
                                     = 66/7 = 9.42 cm^2
