Answer :-

a) 1 / 2

b) 1 / 2

Solution :-

Sample space n( S ) = 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

No. of possible outcomes = n( S ) = 6

a) a prime number

Let the event 'P' be " a prime no. "

Favourable outcomes = 2, 3, 5

No. of favourable outcomes n( P ) = 3

Probability P( P ) = n( P ) / n( S ) = 3 / 6 = 1 / 2

b ) an odd number

Let the event 'O' be " an odd no. "

Favourable outcomes = 1, 3, 5

No. of favourable outcomes n( O ) = 3

Probability P( O ) = n( O ) / n( S ) = 3 / 6 = 1 / 2
