p(-1)= 6(-1)3+2(-1)2-(-1)a+b=14
=-6+2+a+b=14
a+b-4=14
a+b=18 equation 1
when p(x) is divided by( x-1) it leaves 0 because it is a factor of the polynomial p( x)
p(1)= 6(1)3+2(1)2-a(1)+b=0
6+2-a+b=0
b-a=-8 equation 2
add equation 1/2
a+b+b-a=18-8
