Let diameter be x .

New diameter = x + 40/100x

= 14/10 x

Area of a circle = π × diameter² / 4

Original area = πx²/4

New area = π(14x/10)²/4

= 196xπ/400

= 49xπ/100

Increase in area = 49x²π/100 - πx²/4

= 24xπ/100

= 24%
