Question :

A ball is thrown vertically upward with acceleration -10 m/s². Stone was thrown with a speed of 25km/hr. Calculate maximum height it attains.

Answer :

Initial velocity = 25 km/hr

  • 1 km/hr = 5/18 m/s

∴ 25 km/hr = 25 × 5/18 = 6.94 m/s

Acceleration = -10 m/s²

[Negative sign shows downward direction]

\star Acceleration is said to be constant throughout the motion, we can easily apply equation of kinematics to solve this question.

Third equation of kinematics,

  • v² - u² = 2as

Velocity of ball at highest point = zero.

➝ 0² - (6.94)² = 2(-10)H

➝ 48.16 = 20H

H = 2.4 m
