 \tt \:  \frac{ 3x-8  }{ 2x-11  }  = \frac{ 3x+11  }{ 2x+8  }

  • Variable x cannot be equal to any of the values -4, \tt \:\frac{11}{2} since division by zero is not defined. Multiply both sides of the equation by \tt \:2\left(2x-11\right)\left(x+4\right), the least common multiple of 2x-11,2x+8.

 \tt \: \left(2x+8\right)\left(3x-8\right)=\left(2x-11\right)\left(3x+11\right)

  • Use the distributive property to multiply 2x+8 by 3x-8 and combine like terms.

 \tt \: 6x^{2}+8x-64=\left(2x-11\right)\left(3x+11\right)  \\  \tt \: 6x^{2}+8x-64=6x^{2}-11x-121  \\  \tt \: 6x^{2}+8x-64-6x^{2}=-11x-121  \\  \tt \:8x-64=-11x-121  \\  \tt \: 8x-64+11x=-121  \\  \tt \: 19x-64=-121  \\  \tt \: 19x=-57  \\  \tt \: x=\frac{-57}{19}  \\  \tt \: x=-3
