Assume the speed of car to be c and Train to be t km/hr.

In first case,
$train \: distance = 320 \: km \\ car \: distance = 280km$
We know that time= distance/speed

So,
$\frac{320}{t} + \frac{280}{c} = 8h40m \\ \frac{320}{t} + \frac{280}{c} = 8 + \frac{40}{60}$
