From the question, we have;

  • A athlete moves along the circumference of two circles named as PQRSTUVP
  • He takes 44 seconds to complete one round
  • We need to find his speed

Now, for finding speed we need distance travelled & time taken, for distance we know that it is basically the sum of circumferences 0f the both the circles, i.e;

  • Circumference of RSTU + Circumference of PQRV
  • 2πr + 2πr
  • 2 × 3.14 × 3 + 2 × 3.14 × 2
  • 6 × 3.14 + 4 × 3.14
  • 18.84 + 12.56
  • 31.4 m

Finally,

  • Speed = Distance travelled/Time taken

= 31.4/44

= 314/440

= 0.71 m/s ( 0.7 approx )

Therefore, the speed of the athlete is 0.71/0.7 m/s.
